We prioritize sustainable practices to minimize our environmental footprint. All seafood is line caught or harvested by hand to ensure the preservation of our oceans.

Here at BSR we also emphasize what happens with the fish after being caught. We do what we can to utilize the entire fish, not just the fillets. More of the fish used means less fish being caught.

We put a lot of emphasis on our sustainable fishing methods but what’s the point if all we do is take the fillets and throw out the rest.

Look at the entire meal you can prepare from a single Ikejime vermilion rockfish:

- Vermilion rockfish sashimi and hand roll

- Baked Vermilion Rockfish collar

- Drinkable fish broth made from the head and skeleton of the Vermilion Rockfish

We can’t truly promote sustainable fishing without also promoting the utilization of the entire fish. The more of the fish we use means the less fish we have to catch.

Incredible quality California Halibut fillets!

California Halibut are extremely similar to the slightly more famous Pacific (Alaskan) Halibut that everybody knows and loves. They are the largest flatfish in Southern California waters and unlike a typical fish that has 2 fillets, halibut have 4 incredibly delicious, sweet, mild white fillets.

Halibut are a personal favorite because they are very forgiving in the kitchen, meaning that even beginner level at-home chefs can cook them to perfection. Halibut fillets have large flaky meat that stay tender when baked, grilled, poached, you name it!

What is a Sand Dab?

Sand Dabs are the smallest flatfish you’ll find along the California coast. Similar to a snack size halibut or flounder, what Sand Dabs lack in size, they make up for in flavor.

With many ways to prepare them, most go with a light breading and then pan fry to perfection. The skin fries up to a beautiful, savory crisp that has flavor notes reminiscent of French fries while the mild white flesh remains tender and juicy.

If you’re looking for a meal that is sure to impress while also allowing you to brag about saving the environment, Sand Dabs are your go to. We catch all of our sand dabs with hook and line meaning zero bycatch and we aren’t tearing up the ocean floor with massive nets.
